Hey Unchained Community,

The Unchained Wallet beta is now live.

The first public version is currently available as a browser extension, giving the community the opportunity to experience and test the wallet as development continues. The extension can be downloaded directly from the official Solana Unchained website.

Mobile versions for iOS and Android are planned for a later release, extending the same wallet experience to mobile devices.

The Unchained Wallet is designed to be the flagship consumer product of the ecosystem: a non-custodial wallet that brings the three infrastructure protocols directly into a single user-facing interface. Commerce, Social Recovery, and Inheritance aren't intended to be add-ons or third-party plugins. They are designed to be integrated directly into the wallet experience.

Why the Wallet Comes After the Protocols

The sequencing has always been intentional.

The wallet is built on top of the three underlying protocols and consumes them as a user-facing interface. Stabilizing the protocol layer first allows the wallet to be built on a reliable foundation rather than constantly changing in response to modifications to the underlying contracts.

The protocols are developed independently and exposed through SDKs. The wallet integrates those SDKs, meaning the same infrastructure can also be used by third-party dApps without requiring them to build their own competing protocol layer.

The wallet is one consumer of the protocol layer. It isn't the only possible consumer.

Now that the underlying infrastructure has reached the appropriate stage, the wallet has entered beta and is available for community testing.

What the Wallet Actually Does

Beyond standard wallet functionality such as key management, transaction signing, and portfolio viewing, the Unchained Wallet is designed to surface the ecosystem's protocol features through a native interface.

The Commerce experience allows users to browse and purchase digital vouchers directly through the wallet without leaving the application.

Social Recovery is designed to be handled through a guided experience within the wallet, while Inheritance provides access to the inheritance functionality through the same interface.

All three features operate on the same underlying protocol contracts that other dApps can access. The wallet doesn't have privileged access to these protocols. It is a user-friendly interface built on top of a public protocol layer.

Non-Custodial by Architecture

The Unchained Wallet is non-custodial by design. Private keys remain under the user's control and are not held by a centralized service.

Social Recovery and Inheritance are handled through on-chain contracts rather than through a company maintaining custody of users' private keys.

That distinction matters. The goal is to provide recovery and inheritance functionality without turning the wallet into a custodial system.

The Beta Is Available Now

The browser extension is now available for community members who want to explore and test the Unchained Wallet.

This beta represents an important step toward the full wallet ecosystem. Community testing will help identify issues, improve the user experience, and inform continued development before the mobile releases.
